The Central Bank of Chile has launched the gradual rollout of a special edition CLP 100 coin featuring the institution’s centenary logo, marking the start of its incorporation into everyday cash transactions. A total of 30 million coins will be issued and introduced through commercial banks and then distributed to retailers and the public. The coin keeps the same physical characteristics and dimensions as the current bimetallic CLP 100 coin, with the main change being the obverse design, which displays the centenary logo and the inscription “BANCO CENTRAL DE CHILE 1925–2025”; the reverse includes the national coat of arms, the minting year 2025 and the “100 PESOS” denomination. The special edition will not replace the existing bimetallic CLP 100 coin, and both will circulate alongside the larger monometallic CLP 100 coin that stopped being issued in 2000. Distribution begins from 21 July 2025, with circulation expected to increase as coins are used and returned in cash transactions.
