The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) has ordered the cessation of unauthorised insurance intermediation carried out through four websites and initiated their blocking by internet providers operating in Italy, noting that technical implementation may take several days. The websites named in the order are caruosassicurazioni.it, massironi-fcagroup.it (and www.massironi-fcagroup.it), piattaforms.sarabertolazzi.it and annuale.mcinsuranceita.eu, with the cease-and-desist orders published in IVASS’s “Defend ourselves from scams” section. IVASS reported that the total number of websites subject to such orders has reached 279 since it began exercising its website-blocking power in November 2023, and reiterated consumer guidance to verify that quotes and contracts relate to authorised firms and intermediaries by checking IVASS registers and lists, particularly when receiving offers online, by phone or via instant messaging services such as WhatsApp.
