The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures, together with Conservation X Labs and the United Nations Development Programme, has announced the 12 finalists in the Nature Intelligence for Business Grand Challenge, a global competition focused on tools that help small and medium-sized enterprises understand and manage how they depend on and affect nature. The challenge will distribute a shared USD 100,000 prize purse to accelerate solutions designed to deliver actionable nature intelligence consistent with TNFD’s LEAP approach and recommended metrics. Selected from more than 380 applications, the finalists span France, the United States, Australia, Colombia, Germany, Brazil, the United Kingdom and South Africa. Their approaches include open-source data platforms, low-bandwidth mobile tools, automated LEAP workflows, GIS-based landscape intelligence, natural capital accounting and rating systems, and smartphone-based site analysis, with the aim of reducing the cost, complexity and time required for SMEs to produce credible, decision-ready outputs. The finalists will continue refining their solutions and demonstrating how they can help SMEs generate nature intelligence aligned with the LEAP approach and TNFD recommended metrics, including for supply-chain requirements and emerging disclosure expectations. TNFD, CXL and UNDP are inviting SMEs from different countries, sectors and sizes to test the shortlisted tools and provide feedback through April 2026, and winning teams will have opportunities to work with the organisers and partners to strengthen their solutions and expand real-world adoption.
