The Banking Agency of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina reported that Banking System Ombudsman Lejla Smajovic delivered a guest lecture for students and academic staff at the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Law, focused on strengthening understanding of financial services user rights and protection. The session covered the Ombudsman’s remit and role, practical mechanisms for protecting financial services users and how the Ombudsman can support citizens in disputes with financial institutions, and the regulatory framework governing the Ombudsman Office’s work, including relevant laws, by-laws and guidance applied in practice. Smajovic highlighted the importance of transparency, accountability and access to information in the banking sector, and framed financial literacy as a preventive tool for better financial decision-making; the lecture was interactive and drew on practical examples from day-to-day casework.
