The Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) announced the appointment of Gina Byrne, most recently its Chief Operating Officer, as President and Chief Executive Officer. Byrne will replace Leah Anderson, who is set to retire at the end of the month. Byrne brings 18 years of experience at CDIC and has led work on key operational preparedness initiatives, including developing CDIC’s resolution planning framework and the inaugural set of resolution plans for Canada’s largest banks, as well as establishing CDIC’s crisis response framework. CDIC reiterated its role in protecting insured deposits and acting as resolution authority for more than 80 member institutions, including banks, federally regulated credit unions, and trust and loan companies.
