Greece's Ministry of National Economy and Finance discusses UniCredit’s increased stake in Alpha Bank with bank CEOs

Greece's Ministry of National Economy and Finance reported that the Minister, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, met UniCredit CEO Andrea Orcel and Alpha Bank CEO Vassilis Psaltis to discuss UniCredit’s investment in the Greek banking system, focusing on UniCredit’s agreement to increase its shareholding in Alpha Bank and linking the move to progress toward the European Banking Union. The meeting took place at the ministry and also included Alpha Bank Chair Dimitris Tsitsiragos and other senior executives. In public statements following the meeting, the participants characterised the transaction as a strategically important cross-border partnership, with the minister framing it as a signal of confidence in Greece and in the recovery of the domestic banking sector, and the two bank CEOs highlighting the deal’s role in supporting longer-term cooperation and European financial integration.
