The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority has opened a regional office in Chake Chake, Pemba, to bring regulatory and insurance services closer to residents, businesses and institutions across the islands. The office forms part of the authority’s strategy to extend insurance supervision throughout the country. The office will support insurance education and consumer protection, facilitate the registration and supervision of insurance providers, and handle complaints and other service-related issues more promptly. The authority will also work with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, insurers and other stakeholders to improve access to products covering areas including agriculture, fishing, business, health and property.
