The Japan Financial Services Agency has launched a public comment process on draft amendments to the rules on travel expenses and allowances for reference persons and appraisers involved in adjudication procedures under the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act and the Certified Public Accountants Act. The proposal would raise the maximum daily allowance paid in adjudication proceedings relating to surcharge payment orders, citing recent economic fluctuations. The cap for a reference person would increase from JPY 8,450 to JPY 8,750, and the cap for an appraiser would increase from JPY 8,050 to JPY 8,350. Comments are due by 17:00 on 19 May 2026. Following the consultation and necessary procedures, the amendments are scheduled to be promulgated and enter into force on 1 July 2026.
