The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) issued a public warning after a counterfeit surety bond policy issued in the name of CROATIA OSIGURANJE D.D. was reported and disowned by the insurer, alongside an irregular website offering insurance policies using the company’s trademark. The insurer also flagged https://crosiguranje.com/ as not attributable to it, with the site reported as unreachable at the time of the notice. IVASS noted that CROATIA OSIGURANJE D.D. is a Croatian insurer supervised by the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (HANFA) and authorised to operate in Italy under freedom to provide services in non-life classes including class 15 (Surety) and in life. IVASS urged consumers to use caution and to verify, before paying premiums, that quotes and contracts relate to duly authorised insurers and intermediaries by consulting IVASS’s online registers and warning lists (including authorised undertakings, the surety-branch list with telematic policy verification, the Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries and EU intermediary list, and lists of supervised firms’ websites and non-compliant sites).
