The Uruguay Ministry of Economy and Finance announced an agreement between the executive branch, the Rice Growers Association and the Rice Millers Association to create a financing instrument supporting continued rice production and the next growing season. The voluntary program is expected to mobilize about USD 50 million through individual loans of up to 10 years, reaching approximately 400 producers with financing capped at USD 500 per hectare. The instrument will combine a new National Guarantee System arrangement providing initial coverage of 50%, a Rice Millers Association commitment covering 40% in the first year and 30% thereafter, and a sector guarantee fund that will start with USD 1 million from Rice Fund IV and grow through a share of export flows. The parties are coordinating participation by the BROU Group and other interested banks, while technical teams finalize the applicable rules, institutional roles, agreements and trusts needed to launch the instrument.
