The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) issued a warning after a counterfeit draft surety bond (fideiussoria) policy was reported that was issued in the name of FÖRSÄKRINGSAKTIEBOLAGET ALANDIA, which the insurer has disowned. Alandia is a Finnish insurer supervised by Finland’s Financial Supervisory Authority (FIN-FSA) and does not issue surety bond policies. Alandia had been authorised to operate in Italy under the freedom to provide services in several non-life lines, including Class 15 (Surety), but FIN-FSA informed IVASS on 3 September 2025 that the undertaking had renounced its Italian authorisation for Class 15. The IVASS register has been updated to reflect the closure of that line. The counterfeit draft included the false contact details alandiaforsakring@pec.alandiaforsakring.it and info@alandiaforsakring.it. IVASS advised consumers to exercise caution and to verify, before paying any premium, that quotations and contracts relate to authorised insurers and intermediaries by consulting the IVASS website lists and registers, including the dedicated surety-line verification information, the Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI), and IVASS alerts on counterfeits and unauthorised entities.
