The National Bank of Moldova reported that it has completed the first stage of the European Banking Authority’s assessment of whether Moldova’s banking prudential framework is equivalent to the European Union’s and is proceeding to the next stages. Governor Anca Dragu reviewed the country’s broader financial sector reforms with European Commissioner for Financial Services and the Savings and Investments Union Maria Luís Albuquerque, building on the central bank’s continuing alignment of banking regulation and supervision with EU standards. The discussions covered legislative projects on the free movement of capital, payment systems and central bank independence, as well as financial market infrastructure and Moldova’s integration into the Single Euro Payments Area. They also addressed the central bank’s contribution to reforms under the EU-backed EUR 1.9 billion Growth Plan for Moldova for 2025-2027, including measures intended to support investment, private sector development and access to finance.
