The Bank of the Lao reported that a delegation led by Deputy Governor Sulisack Thammavong attended the 2025 China-ASEAN Financial Conference in Nanning, China, held on 23–24 July 2025, and delivered a keynote address focused on cross-border payment services in the China-ASEAN region. In the keynote, the Deputy Governor emphasised China-ASEAN financial cooperation, including connecting cross-border payment systems and promoting the use of local currencies for trade and investment settlement. The remarks also highlighted using technology and artificial intelligence in financial services to expand access for small and medium-sized enterprises and underserved communities, alongside supporting fraud detection, risk forecasting and stronger cyber security. The delegation also visited the China-ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Collaborative Innovation Center and toured operations of Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group.
