The Central Bank of Belize announced the launch of Belize’s Credit Reporting System (CRS), creating a national mechanism for collecting and sharing credit information to support lending decisions and expand access to credit. Under the CRS, licensed credit bureau CRIF Information Services Limited will collect and share credit information from banks, credit unions and other lending institutions, with the aim of reducing information gaps and enabling more accurate assessment of borrowers’ creditworthiness. The release highlights expected benefits for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and households, and notes that CRIF must handle credit information securely and accurately in line with the Credit Reporting Act. The credit bureau is expected to go live in early 2026.
