The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) published an update on a visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabiti Kombo, to its stand at the Zanzibar International Trade Fair, where he instructed that insurance for foreign visitors entering Tanzania be fully supervised. During the visit, the minister was briefed on TIRA’s role in regulating and developing the insurance sector, including safeguarding the interests of foreign visitors arriving for tourism, business and other purposes. He urged the establishment of robust insurance systems for visitors and directed insurance stakeholders to work closely with government bodies responsible for immigration, tourism and health, including his ministry, to ensure visitor insurance products are understood, easily accessible and meet international market needs. TIRA’s Unguja regional manager, Kurenje Mbura, said the authority would continue supervising the sector and working with stakeholders to improve insurance services for foreign visitors and imported cargo. The Zanzibar International Trade Fair runs from 29 December 2025 to 16 January 2026 at the Nyamanzi Dimani grounds in Zanzibar.
