The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) has ordered the cessation of insurance intermediation carried out through three websites that were offering insurance services without authorisation, and has instructed providers operating in Italy to block access to them. The sites named are www.unipolocatanzarocrotone.it (and unipolocatanzarocrotone.it), www.unipolsaileini.it (and unipolsaileini.it), and www.evconsulenzapatrimoniale.it (and evconsulenzapatrimoniale.it). Blocking activity is under way and may take a few days for technical reasons. IVASS noted that the total number of abusive sites subject to cease-activity orders has reached 262 since it began exercising its website-blocking powers in November 2023, and it reiterated consumer guidance to verify that insurers and intermediaries are duly authorised by consulting IVASS registers, including the Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI), particularly for offers made online, by phone, or via messaging apps and for temporary motor third-party liability policies.
