The Oman Financial Services Authority published an update on the first 2026 meeting of its Governance Committee for Employment, centered on aligning hiring outcomes in the financial and insurance sectors with labor market needs. The main new step was approval of a sector laboratories initiative, to be implemented in October and November 2026, to develop employment initiatives for sectors supervised by the authority. The committee also reviewed measures to strengthen Omanization and improve workforce planning across regulated firms. Discussions covered follow-up on a workforce data survey intended to provide more accurate information on staffing levels and companies' future needs, supporting employment decisions and the issuance of work permits. The committee also examined coordination with the Ministry of Labour and the National Employment Programme on harmonizing job titles and organizing work permit procedures in line with survey results, while giving priority to qualified national talent. In training and placement, it reviewed the Jisr initiative, which began on April 12, 2026, with 20 trainees being prepared for jobs in insurance companies and assessed through to programme completion in July 2026. The meeting also addressed implementation of Omanization plans approved by licensed companies, with periodic monitoring in coordination with the Ministry of Labour, and received updates on the Tawteen national employment platform and employment performance indicators.
