The Bank of Japan has published its regular research dataset on developments in real exports and real imports, presenting Japan’s trade flows on a real-value basis to strip out price effects and support analysis consistent with real GDP. The release comprises a main series for real exports and real imports, plus reference series that break down real exports by region and by goods. The main series is scheduled, in principle, for release at 2:00 p.m. on the same day as the Ministry of Finance’s Trade Statistics (Provisional), while the regional and goods breakdowns are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. three business days after the provisional trade statistics release, with both timetables subject to change. The Bank notes that the data may be revised retroactively due to revisions to source statistics, base-year changes and annual revisions, and that compilation methods may be adjusted for economic assessment purposes.
