The Central Reserve Bank of El Salvador reported that the Economic Activity Volume Index rose 5.6% in May 2026 from a year earlier, marking a fifth consecutive month of growth of at least 4%. Construction, real estate, commerce and services were the main drivers, supported by public and private investment and domestic and external demand. Construction recorded the strongest growth at 9.7%, alongside a 21.5% increase in apparent cement consumption. Real estate services grew 7%, while housing acquisition and construction loans rose 13.9% to USD 3.51 billion. Commerce, transportation, hotels and restaurants and government services each expanded 6.7%, while financial and insurance activities increased 4.7% and industrial production rose 4.5%. Agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing contracted 0.7% because of adverse climatic conditions.
