The National Bank of Denmark has put a redesigned series of Danish 20-, 10-, 5-, 2- and 1-krone coins into circulation featuring portraits and symbols reflecting H.M. King Frederik X, while confirming that existing coins will remain legal tender alongside the new issue. The 20- and 10-krone coins carry a portrait of the King by artist Eva Hjorth on the obverse and the shield and crown from the royal coat of arms on the reverse. The 5-, 2- and 1-krone coins feature the King’s monogram on the obverse and the denomination and “Danmark” on the reverse, together with a new icon based on the octagonal Amalienborg palace square. The 50-øre coin is unchanged, and the new coins keep the same sizes, materials and overall sequence as the existing denominations.
