Financial Action Task Force of Latin America holds asset recovery network meeting focused on regional coordination and stronger cooperation with CARIN

The Financial Action Task Force of Latin America published an update on the 23rd General Meeting of Contact Points of the GAFILAT Asset Recovery Network, held on July 2 and 3 as part of Asset Recovery Week. The meeting centered on operational challenges in recovering illicit assets, the exchange of practical experience among contact points and partner bodies, and discussion of a regional strategy that places coordination among domestic authorities and international cooperation at the core of identifying and recovering illicit property. The wider program also included meetings, applied training and technical coordination on June 30 and July 1 with prosecutors, law enforcement bodies and financial investigation units from Latin America and Europe. During the annual network meeting, participants including representatives of CARIN and other international organizations discussed ways to strengthen the GAFILAT Asset Recovery Network and improve cooperation with other Asset Recovery Interagency Networks. Participants included contact points from GAFILAT member countries, Spain's CITCO and ORGA, as well as representatives from CARIN, the World Bank, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Basel Institute on Governance's International Centre for Asset Recovery.
