The European Council announced that Eurogroup President and Irish Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe will deliver the keynote speech at the sixth European Central Bank Forum on Banking Supervision in Frankfurt on “Shaping financial regulation in the era of distrust.” The biennial forum convenes senior policymakers, academics and financial sector executives to discuss current developments in banking and supervision. In the remarks released in advance, Donohoe points to recent euro area resilience to shocks including Covid-19 and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, highlights the Single Supervisory Mechanism’s role in safeguarding euro area stability, and argues that regulation should also enable banks to adapt and innovate to support financing of the European economy.
