The European Commission has disbursed EUR 157 million to Moldova under the Moldova Reform and Growth Facility following the completion of 18 reforms in the latest reporting period. The payment brings total performance based financing provided under the facility to about EUR 661 million. The announcement formed part of the tenth EU-Moldova Association Council, which reviewed Moldova’s progress toward EU accession and welcomed the opening of the fundamentals and external relations negotiating clusters. The EU called for continued judicial reform, vetting of judges and prosecutors, and a stronger record of corruption investigations, prosecutions and final court rulings. It also emphasized macroeconomic stability and sound monetary policy amid inflationary pressures, encouraging Moldova to direct facility funding toward growth enhancing reforms and improvements to the business environment. The meeting also noted Moldova’s closer integration with the EU internal market through its inclusion in the Single Euro Payments Area, participation in the Common Transit Convention and integration into EU roaming arrangements.
