In remarks to the shipping industry, Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance said companies should treat the transition to a low-carbon economy as an opportunity to improve efficiency, access financing and investment, and strengthen competitiveness. Shipping companies were encouraged to translate policy signals into business strategies through low-emission technologies, operational efficiencies and green financing, while responding to growing demand for low-carbon transport services. The ministry highlighted the government’s use of carbon pricing, tax incentives for low-emission technologies, de-risking schemes and sustainable financing instruments including Green Sukuk, Blue Bonds and Sustainable Development Goals Bonds. It also called for Indonesia’s domestic carbon market, operating through the Carbon Exchange since 2023, to be strengthened through greater liquidity, integrity and price discovery.
