The National Bank of Moldova has expanded its MIA Instant Payments system with QR code functionality for business-to-business transfers. Businesses can scan a QR code and authorize payments through online banking, allowing funds to reach the recipient immediately at any time and at low cost. The feature extends the MIA business-to-business service launched in spring 2026 and is intended to simplify liquidity management and commercial transactions. MIA has expanded steadily since its March 2024 launch, moving beyond phone number-based transfers between individuals to support QR codes, payment links and requests, merchant payments, payments to public institutions and transfers between businesses. More than 1 million unique users can receive transfers or payment requests through their phone numbers, while over 12,000 businesses provide more than 24,000 MIA payment acceptance points.
