The Bank of Korea reported that outstanding household credit increased by KRW 25.9 trillion, or 1.3%, during the second quarter of 2026 to reach KRW 2,019.8 trillion at end-June. The quarterly increase accelerated from KRW 14.8 trillion in the first quarter, driven mainly by a KRW 24.9 trillion rise in household loans, while merchandise credit increased by KRW 0.9 trillion. Household loans reached KRW 1,891.3 trillion, comprising KRW 1,190.8 trillion in housing-related loans and KRW 700.5 trillion in other loans. Lending increased by KRW 13.3 trillion at commercial and specialized banks, KRW 3.1 trillion at non-bank depository corporations and KRW 8.6 trillion at other financial corporations. Merchandise credit stood at KRW 128.5 trillion.
