The National Bank of Moldova launched the Governor's Gala, an awards initiative recognizing contributions from the financial sector, with its first edition focused on Moldova's integration into the Single Euro Payments Area. Governor Anca Dragu presented awards to the nine Moldovan banks admitted to conduct SEPA transactions, including recent participant Euro Credit Bank, and to the Moldova Banking Association for coordinating the sector's preparations. Moldova became operationally connected to SEPA on Oct. 6, 2025. In the first 11 months, the system processed about 1.1 million transfers worth roughly EUR 7.6 billion and generated estimated savings of EUR 15 million for individuals and businesses. The average transfer cost was about EUR 1, more than 14 times lower than previous SWIFT fees, while SEPA's share of cross-border euro transfers to and from the area reached 87% in August 2026.
