The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) issued a warning after receiving reports of two counterfeit surety bond policies bearing the name Berkshire Hathaway European Insurance DAC, which the insurer has disowned. IVASS noted it had already flagged the marketing in Italy of draft counterfeit surety bond policies in the same name in a 26 September 2025 press release. Berkshire Hathaway European Insurance DAC is an Irish insurer supervised by the Central Bank of Ireland and is authorised to operate in Italy under establishment and freedom of services in various non-life classes, including Class 15 (Surety), but it does not issue surety bond policies. The insurer also informed IVASS that the certified email address berkheinsdac@pec-mail.eu is fake and not connected to the company. IVASS recommended that customers exercise caution when assessing insurance offers and, before paying premiums, verify that quotes and contracts relate to duly authorised undertakings and intermediaries by consulting the relevant IVASS registers and warning lists on its website.
