The Central Bank of Jordan announced enforcement action following field inspections that identified unlicensed insurance-related activities. It fined a management consulting, information technology programming and services company JOD 100,000 for providing services reserved for licensed insurance service providers. The central bank also imposed fines of JOD 20,000 on each person found unlawfully marketing insurance contracts and soliciting customers through offices in licensing areas. Providing insurance or related services without prior authorization breaches Jordan’s insurance law, with repeat violations potentially attracting fines of up to JOD 400,000. The central bank also warned against using nonprofit entities as a front for unlawful insurance activity.
