In opening remarks at the presentation of The History of Economic Thought series, Bank of Italy Governor Fabio Panetta outlined the central bank’s work with RAI to restore and make publicly accessible 101 interviews examining the contributions of 52 economists. The collection, available through Rai Teche, traces how economic thought developed in response to practical questions about money, credit, financial crises, prices and employment. Panetta also reported that the Bank of Italy’s Money Museum is in the final phase of development. The interviews will feature in the museum and its online offering, supporting the central bank’s financial education work by explaining monetary history, inflation, interest rates and the changing forms of money. Panetta linked greater public understanding of economic and financial issues to trust in independent central banks.
