Finland's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Finance convened a roundtable in Helsinki chaired by Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto to discuss how Finland could strengthen its position as a growth platform for fintech companies. The discussion focused on how policy, regulation and market infrastructure can affect the sector’s development. Topics included the use of financial data and forthcoming European Union work on regulating financial data availability, intended to create a framework for responsible access to individuals’ and corporate customers’ financial information and to enable innovation in financial services. The roundtable also covered fintech solutions for businesses, with Puisto pointing to Finnish expertise in combining financial administration and artificial intelligence, and discussed regulatory challenges for growth, alongside the role of Finland’s Financial Supervisory Authority. The meeting followed an October roundtable focused on crypto-assets. A further roundtable is scheduled for 26 January on venture capital, including how to attract more international investors into Finnish venture capital funds, with a detailed invitation due to be published on 15 December.
