The Palau Financial Institutions Commission participated in the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Association of Financial Supervisors of Pacific Countries and an associated technical workshop in Fiji. It presented Palau’s country report, covering systemic risks, domestic supervisory actions, progress in implementing risk-based supervision, development priorities and technical assistance needs. The workshop examined activity-based and risk-based approaches to licensing and supervising financial technology, including digital assets, electronic money and open banking. Discussions also addressed safeguards requiring non-bank wallet and stored-value providers to segregate customer funds, as well as operational resilience requirements for critical financial services. Cyber sessions emphasized board and senior management responsibility for information and communications technology risk, including risks from third-party providers, cloud concentration and service disruptions.
