The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo reported progress on reforms supported by International Monetary Fund technical assistance during a meeting between Governor Ahmet Ismaili and Marina Moretti, deputy director of the IMF’s Monetary and Capital Markets Department, at the 2026 IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings. The discussions centered on strengthening risk based supervision, financial stability and the regulatory framework. SREP implementation has advanced through the development of key risk and early warning indicators, automation of supervisory assessments and improvements to the SREP Manual. These measures support alignment with European Banking Authority standards and Pillar 2 of the Basel Framework. Further work will focus on operationalizing the Emergency Liquidity Assistance framework, strengthening regulation and supervision of crypto-asset service providers, and launching new technical assistance on crisis management and financial stability with an emphasis on interinstitutional coordination. Ismaili also provided an update on the continuing modernization of Kosovo’s payments infrastructure, including the TIPS Clone instant payments project and preparations to join the Single Euro Payments Area. The reforms are intended to improve payment efficiency, security and access, reduce transaction costs and deepen integration with the European financial system.
