The Bank of Cape Verde has announced that it will hold Museums Forum 2026 at its auditorium on July 28 as part of the central bank's 50th anniversary celebrations and the third anniversary of the Museum of the Bank of Cape Verde. The event is also linked to International Museum Day 2026 and will be held under the International Council of Museums theme, “Museums uniting a divided world.” The bank frames the forum as a platform for reflection, exchange of experience and stronger cooperation among museums, sector professionals, researchers and cultural actors in Cape Verde and internationally. The program includes an opening lecture on the transformative role of museums in uniting a divided world and a second session on coin design as an expression of national identity and collective memory. Three panels will then address museums and shared narratives, innovation and cooperation to reach new audiences, and museums, education and communities in transformation. Topics include the role of museums in safeguarding cultural identity and social change, the place of museums in a small island developing state such as Cape Verde, the Tarrafal Resistance Museum as a space for reconciliation, and UNESCO's 2015 recommendations on protecting and promoting museums and collections.
