The Central Bank of Latvia published payment statistics showing that Latvian payment service providers processed 450.4 million customer non-cash payments totalling EUR 584.7 billion in the first half of 2025. Activity averaged 2.5 million payments worth EUR 3.2 billion per day. Compared with the first half of 2024, the volume of non-cash payments rose by 6% and their total value by 18%. Payment cards remained the most used instrument, and both card payments and credit transfers increased over the period. Credit transfers drove the largest increase in total payment value, while card payments recorded the larger increase in volumes. Credit transfers excluding intrabank payments totalled 53.6 million transactions worth EUR 75.1 billion, up 9% by volume and 6% by value. Card payments represented 60.2% of total non-cash payment volume, customer credit transfers 36.7%, and e-money 3.1%. By end-June 2025, providers had issued 2.2 million payment cards (1.2 per capita), residents had access to 57.3 thousand POS terminals and 865 ATMs in Latvia (plus 7 abroad), and customer payment accounts totalled 3.2 million (1.7 per capita).
