The World Savings and Retail Banking Institute has published a joint statement from the European Association of Co-operative Banks, European Banking Federation and European Savings and Retail Banking Group welcoming the creation of the European Network for Payments. The new entity will provide a common technical and operational framework to progressively enable seamless cross-border payments between European payment solutions serving about 130 million users in 13 countries. The network brings together Bancomat, Bizum, EPI/Wero, SIBS–MB WAY and Vipps MobilePay, building on their memorandum of understanding earlier in 2026. It advances a market-led interconnection effort previously supported by the associations to reduce fragmentation among national payment markets and strengthen an integrated European payments ecosystem based on existing infrastructure, standards and investment.
