The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) hosted a delegation from the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) to showcase Egypt’s experience in establishing its new banknote printing house in the New Administrative Capital, which the CBE describes as one of the most advanced printing facilities in the Middle East and Africa. The visit formed part of BCEAO’s efforts to draw on Egypt’s experience as it considers establishing its own national printing house. The delegation toured the full banknote production cycle, from design through to delivery to the Cash Center, and received briefings on production capacity intended to meet Egypt’s needs and support other countries in the region. The programme also covered the printing house’s production technologies, security systems to protect against forgery and counterfeiting, and quality control arrangements, including banknote testing protocols at each stage before issuance, alongside the role of an ongoing research and development system aimed at improving quality, efficiency and currency circulation. This was BCEAO’s second visit to the facility in less than two years, following a previous tour during the African Currency Forum hosted by Egypt in 2023.
