Quebec Autorité des marchés financiers shared an update from the Canadian Securities Administrators on the Joint Forum of Financial Market Regulators’ annual meeting in Calgary, which convened insurance, securities, pensions and other financial services regulators to discuss collaboration and emerging issues. The Joint Forum brings together members of the Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators, the Canadian Securities Administrators and the Canadian Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities, alongside representatives from Canadian insurance services regulatory organizations and the Mortgage Brokers’ Council of Canada. New senior leaders participating this year included British Columbia Financial Services Authority CEO Tolga Yalkin, Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario CEO Dexter John, Newfoundland and Labrador Superintendent of Securities Loyola Power, and Nova Scotia Securities Commission Chair and CEO Valerie Seager. The plenary session covered the recently published CSA Staff Notice and Consultation 11-348 on the applicability of Canadian securities laws to the use of artificial intelligence systems in capital markets, including a request for feedback on AI’s evolving role and potential changes to oversight and regulation.
