Mexico's National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Financial Services Users and the Mexican Banking Association have warned consumers about recent financial fraud attempts involving malware installed on mobile devices. The malware can capture credentials, intercept verification codes or take control of a device to initiate unauthorized transactions using compromised authentication methods, making fraud harder to identify immediately. The attacks often begin outside banking applications through deceptive text messages, emails, calls or links that prompt users to download software, open files or disclose confidential information. Consumers should use updated antivirus tools and official app stores, avoid suspicious links and remote access software, protect passwords and verification codes, check transaction details and activate account alerts. Anyone who suspects a compromised device or detects an unauthorized transaction should stop the transaction, disconnect the device from the internet, contact their financial institution through official channels and change passwords from a secure device.
