By destination within Ecuador, remittances from the United States were concentrated in Pichincha, Guayas, Azuay, Cañar and Chimborazo. Flows from Spain went mainly to Pichincha, Guayas, El Oro, Tungurahua and Loja, while remittances from Italy were directed principally to Guayas, Pichincha, El Oro, Manabí and Los Ríos. On receipt channels, 63.1% of remittances entered through private banks, and 77.8% of those transfers were credited directly to savings or current accounts. The central bank said its remittance statistics are compiled from transaction-level microdata using validation, cleansing and standardized geographic coding to produce monthly, disaggregated data aligned with national and international standards.
