Finland's Ministry of Finance announced that Minister of Finance Riikka Purra will represent Finland at the EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council (Ecofin) in Brussels on 11 March, where ministers will hold a policy debate on the European Commission’s push to simplify EU rules to support competitiveness and investment. The first “omnibus” proposals referenced cover legislation on sustainability reporting, corporate responsibility, the carbon border adjustment mechanism, the InvestEU programme and the sustainable finance taxonomy. Purra stated that Finland is seeking to reduce EU regulation that increases companies’ administrative burden and will take a position on the Commission proposals at a later stage. Ecofin ministers will also exchange views on sanctions against Russia from a customs perspective, with Finland stressing effective implementation and preventing circumvention. Separately, Finland will be represented in the Eurogroup by Under-Secretary of State Leena Mörttinen for discussions on euro area economic developments, fiscal policy coordination, crypto-asset activities and markets, and the capital markets union.
