The National Association of Insurance Commissioners announced that state insurance regulators have issued a nationwide data call to insurers to build a more granular view of homeowners insurance markets across the United States, down to the ZIP code level. The initiative is positioned as the most comprehensive collection of US homeowners insurance policy data and is intended to support assessments of availability and affordability, mitigation efforts, insurer financial strength monitoring, and consumer awareness of insurance options. The 2026 data call has a 15 June 2026 submission deadline, covers policy years 2018–2025, and applies to insurers writing at least USD 50,000 in relevant premium. Requested data includes policy type (home, renter, condo, and mobile home), premiums, claims and losses by peril, deductibles, cancellations, non-renewals, coverage limits, replacement cost and actual cash value, and mitigation discounts. The NAIC Homeowners Market Data Call Task Force will oversee the data call and communications, while a working group of state insurance regulators will lead development of the public report. After validation and analysis, regulators plan to publish a public report in early 2027 and provide an opportunity for public comment before it is finalized, with public meeting and comment information to be posted on NAIC.org.
