The Hong Kong Insurance Authority issued an alert about phishing mobile text messages sent by fraudsters impersonating Manulife (International) Limited, an authorised insurer in Hong Kong, to obtain personal or payment information. The messages asked recipients to call a suspicious phone number to cancel or change an insurance policy. Manulife confirmed it has no connection with the fraudulent messages or the phone number cited and noted it only sends SMS to Hong Kong mobile users via the Registered SMS Sender ID “#Manulife”. The alert advises anyone who has provided information to the fraudsters or conducted transactions through them to contact Manulife and report the case to the Hong Kong Police Force.
