Bank Indonesia’s Retail Sales Survey forecasts the Real Sales Index to grow 0.5% year over year in August 2026, supported mainly by spare parts and accessories and by food, beverages and tobacco. Sales are expected to contract 0.1% month over month, driven by weaker sales of other goods despite growth in information and communication equipment, automotive fuels, and spare parts and accessories. In July, retail sales rose 1.1% year over year after contracting 3.0% in June, while falling 0.1% from the previous month as demand normalized after the national religious festive period and school holidays. Respondents also expect milder inflationary pressures, with the Price Expectations Index declining to 146.5 for October 2026 and 166.0 for January 2027 from 155.2 and 168.1 in the previous survey periods.
