Mexico's National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF) published complaint statistics for the state of Guanajuato covering January to May 2025, recording 4,185 complaints, up 3.1% from the same period in 2024 and representing 3.7% of complaints nationwide. The amount claimed totalled MXN 104.2 million, down 46.3% year on year. Of the complaints in Guanajuato, 67.7% were handled through CONDUSEF’s Electronic Case Management process, 20.2% through the REDECO channel related to debt collection agency conduct, and 12.1% through other processes. Credit cards, debit cards and the special credit report accounted for 51.0% of complained-of products, while leading causes included unrecognised transactions and certain debt collection practices, together representing 22.9% of complaints. By sector, commercial banking represented 57.7% of complaints, followed by credit information companies (14.3%) and insurers (11.2%); within commercial banking, 25.2% of complaints involved older adults and 51.4% were linked to possible fraud, mainly unrecognised card and online purchases.
