The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that its Chairman, Melis Turgunbaev, met Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey in London on 26 February 2026 to discuss current monetary policy issues in the United Kingdom and the Kyrgyz Republic. The talks also covered financial stability and recent trends in payment systems and the digital transformation of financial sectors. The release highlighted the Bank of England’s role as a mega-regulator responsible for prudential supervision and regulation of the UK financial system, including oversight of banks, insurance companies and investment firms through units such as the Prudential Regulation Authority. Both sides expressed interest in expanding their partnership and identified scope to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
