The Central Bank of Belize, alongside the Government of Belize, unveiled redesigned Belize Dollar banknotes, highlighting new imagery and upgraded anti-counterfeiting features ahead of their planned introduction into circulation later in 2025. The redesign does not change the value of the currency, and the Belize Dollar will remain pegged to the US Dollar at BZ$2.00 to US$1.00 when the notes are introduced. The notes feature imagery honouring Rt. Hon. George Price and Hon. Philip Goldson, the only two recipients of the Order of National Hero. Security upgrades include enhanced watermarks, colour-shifting security threads and holographic stripes. The Central Bank said current notes will remain legal tender and will circulate alongside the new notes during a transition period.
