Tanzania’s Ministry of Finance has confirmed that newly printed Tanzania shilling banknotes will be introduced into circulation from 1 February 2025, to be used alongside existing notes. The Bank of Tanzania Governor handed sample notes to the Minister of Finance, who approved their release into circulation as planned. The new notes are a reprint of the 2010 series and cover denominations of TZS 10,000, TZS 5,000, TZS 2,000 and TZS 1,000. They retain the same appearance as the current 2010-issue notes, including security features, size and colour, with changes limited to the printed signatures: the signature of former Finance Minister Philip Isdor Mpango has been replaced by that of the current Finance Minister, Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba, and the signature of former Bank of Tanzania Governor Prof. Florens Luoga has been replaced by that of the current Governor, Emmanuel Tutuba. The Bank of Tanzania stated that the reprinting process has been completed and that the public has already been notified through a Government Gazette notice, with circulation beginning on 1 February 2025.
