The Bank of Cape Verde published an update on its participation in Macau’s launch of the digital pataca (e-MOP) prototype system and white paper, alongside technical exchanges intended to inform Cape Verde’s own central bank digital currency (CBDC) work. The 12–13 December 2024 programme, organised by the Monetary Authority of Macao, presented the e-MOP prototype and a white paper describing the planned implementation approach and related research, including a demonstration of a functional application and digital-currency use cases. The Bank of Cape Verde delegation included board member Antónia Lopes and Gilda Gomes, Director of the Issue, Treasury and Payments Systems Department, and held working meetings with the People’s Bank of China’s Digital Currency Institute and the Monetary Authority of Macao on digital-currency development and real-time and instant transfer systems, as well as a visit to the Bank of China. The Bank of Cape Verde expects the mission to contribute to a study it is preparing on CBDC projects in other jurisdictions, supporting the structuring and implementation of its digital currency development project for Cape Verde.
