The Hong Kong Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau convened the first meeting of its Joint Working Group on Commodity Trading, led by Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui. The group began developing a roadmap for an internationally competitive commodities trading ecosystem, focusing on market opportunities, Hong Kong’s development potential and prospects for collaboration between exchanges. Gold will serve as the initial focus for plans to establish Hong Kong as an international commodities hub integrating trading, clearing, warehousing, pricing and financing. The working group includes representatives from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Securities and Futures Commission, Insurance Authority and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, with other public bodies and market organizations participating when needed.
